Import a CSV and check the result

Review valid rows, understand skipped names and publish imported products deliberately.

User guide
These guides describe implemented workflows. You still need an account and access to the product; individual features can have separate requirements.

Where: Dashboard, Catalog, Import

  1. Export your source catalogue as a CSV. Keep a copy. Use clear columns such as Name, Price, Category, Description and Image, with a name and price for every product.
  2. Open Catalog, Import and choose Choose a CSV file. Read the preview before importing. Check the recognised columns, product names and prices; if the text looks garbled, correct the file encoding and choose the file again.
  3. Correct rejected rows in the source file when you want to keep them. The preview counts valid products ready to import, and only those rows are submitted when you continue. A preview also records the import attempt; it does not create products.
  4. Confirm the import and read both imported and skipped counts. Existing names match without regard to letter case, and duplicate names in the file import once. Existing products keep their values; re-importing is not a way to update their prices.
  5. Review the resulting products in Catalog. Imported products start as drafts. Check shelves, prices and photographs, then use Visible on my shop or the catalogue publish action for the products ready to sell.
  6. Open the published storefront and check a product from the import. Images are fetched separately, so a successful product import does not prove that every image arrived.
  • An image URL must use HTTPS and be publicly reachable. A dead or refused source image needs a replacement photograph. Check the product after the import and upload a suitable image if it is missing.
  • If your image account or allowance refuses an upload, check Settings, Your accounts. Product records can already exist while images are still pending.
  • If Commerce access is paused while images are being fetched, pending image work is retained. Restore access before retrying. An upload already sent to the provider may remain there without being attached to the product; check the product before uploading again.
  • A file may name at most 50 distinct shelves. A category that names a rule shelf refuses the import. Correct the category or the shelf before retrying.
  • A database failure during the import rolls back its product, shelf and completion changes together. Image fetching remains a separate step.
  • If the import result is uncertain, inspect Catalog before submitting again. A repeated file skips matching names, but renaming rows changes that comparison and can create new products.
