Notifications and announcements

Where Kyloth's own announcements to you appear, and how to get them as browser notifications too.

User guide
These guides describe implemented workflows. You still need an account and access to the product; individual features can have separate requirements.

Where: Dashboard, Notifications

When Kyloth needs to tell you something about the service itself, such as a planned change or a problem we are working on, it appears inside your dashboard. A bell in the dashboard header shows how many announcements and shop alerts are unread. Select it, or open Notifications from the menu, to read them. Opening an announcement's link does not mark it read; use Mark read or Mark all read.

An announcement marked as an incident also shows as a banner across the top of the dashboard. The banner stays until you have marked that announcement read.

  1. Open Notifications from the dashboard.
  2. Under Browser notifications, choose Turn on browser notifications on this device, and allow notifications when your browser asks.
  3. Choose Send me a test. It should arrive within a minute.
  4. To stop them on a device, choose Remove next to it in the list of your devices.
  • Browser notifications are set up per device and per browser. Turn them on in each one you want.
  • Removing a device stops pushes to it. To stop them for good on a browser, also turn notifications off on that browser, because signing in there again would otherwise renew them. The announcements stay in your dashboard either way.
  • If you have blocked notifications for the site in your browser, the page says so. Allow them in the browser's site settings, then reload.
  • Some browsers do not support them at all, and the page tells you when that is the case.
Before you continue
Notifications reach a browser while its dashboard session is signed in, which lasts 24 hours from the moment you signed in. When that session ends, notifications pause until you next open the dashboard signed in, and then they resume for another 24 hours. You can turn them off for a device at any time from Notifications. Signing out of Accounts does not end your dashboard session on a browser. If two people share a browser, whoever turns notifications on last owns that browser's notifications, so on a shared computer check the list of devices under Notifications and remove any you do not recognise.

Announcements are in your dashboard and, if you turn it on, as a browser notification. Both are best effort: a browser notification can arrive late or not at all, so the dashboard is the place to look when it matters. Kyloth does not send these announcements by email, WhatsApp or SMS.
